Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights

 

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights aims to contribute and safeguard the human rights worldwide. It works to enhance universally recognized norms of human rights, pursuing protection of rule of law, ratification and introduction of agreements on human rights.    

       
   

United Nations Children’s Fund

  Established by the UN General Assembly in 1946, UNICEF is the only organization of the UN dealing with children’s problems. Its primary mission is to protect children’s rights and improve their lives.
       
   

United Nations Development Program

 

The United Nations Development Program was founded in 1965 at the request of the UN General Assembly through merging of the UN Special Fund and the Extensive Technical Assistance program. The organization focuses its activities on the following areas: sending experts and consultants to the aid-recipient countries, delivering equipments and devises, training staff , arranging workshops and etc. UNDP has been operating in Georgia since 1993. It helps Georgia with 4 core spheres in close cooperation with governmental institutions, civilpublic and private sector, there are as follows: democratic governance, economic development, environmental protection and electric power, crises prevention and further rehabilitation of crises.

       
   

United Nations Development Fund for Women

 

The United Nations Development Fund for Women, the same UNIFEM was formed in 1976. The Fund provides financial and technical assistance to innovative approaches, serving to raise women’s empowerment and gender equality. At present, the organization works on the women and gender issues in over 100 countries worldwide.

       
   

Food and agreculture Organization of the United Nations

 

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is an intergovernmental organization that leads efforts to defeat hunger. Headquartered in Rome, Italy, FAO is present in over 130 countries around the globe. It strives to help eliminate huger, food security and malnutrition; make agriculture, forestry and fisheries more productive and sustainable; reduce rural poverty; enable inclusive and efficient agricultural and food systems, and increase the resilience on livelihoods to disasters.

       
   

Council of Europe

 

The Council of Europe is the continent’s leading human rights organization. It includes 47 member states, 28 of which are members of the European Union. All Council of Europe member states have signed up to the European Convention on Human Rights, a treaty designed to protect human rights, democracy and the rule of law. The Council of Europe advocates freedom of expression and of the media, freedom of assembly, equality, and the protection of minorities. The Council of Europe helps member states fight corruption and terrorism and undertake necessary judicial reforms. Georgia became the 41th member state of the Council of Europe on 27 April 1999.

       
    Danish Refugee Council  

The Danish Refugee Council is a private humanitarian organization seeking to relieve Refugees’ plight in over 20 countries around the world and contribute to their rehabilitation.

       
    World Vision  

World Vision International is the largest Christian humanitarian relief and development, nongovernmental organization, established in 1950 in the USA. The organization mainly focuses on :”every human being’s well-being. Particularly on children”. The activities of World Vision include 4 major programs in 97 countries of 6 continents around the globe: children in exclusively dire conditions(CEDC);food security and community development; human rights and peace maintenance; development of microenterprises.

       
    International Organization for Migration  

The International Organization for Migration is operating in over 100 countries together with 127member and 93 observer status holding countries. It seeks to contribute to human and legitimate migration through providing consultations to governments and migrants . The organization works on 4 core areas:migration and development; migration facilitation; migration regulation; forced migration.

       
       
    World Food Programme   The World Food Program of the UN is the world’s largest humanitarian agency, which every year provides food to about 90-million people in 80 countries worldwide, among them 58 million are children.The World Food Program is the world’s largest international organization fighting against hanger in Africa, middle East, Latin America, Asia and countries of Oceania.
       
    Norwegian Refugee Council  

TheNorwegian Refugee Council is an independent humanitarian nongovernmental organization, assisting refugees and IDPs. The organization addresses 5 major areas: houses and schools construction, distribution of food and its substitutions aiming to relieve a definite situation; providing consultations and legal advice; bank management and education.

       
    OXFAM  

The Great Britain’s Charity organization OXFAM was founded in 1942 in Oxford and today it works in over 80 countries. With an aim to eradicating injustice and building a better future, Oxfam actively cooperates with communities, local partner organizations, volunteers and supporters. OXFAM’s development, humanitarian activity addresses those basic rights that are an integral privilege of every individual, such as: social and economic rights, civil and political rights and the right to have a life free from persecution and hunger.

       
    International Relief and Development Fund   The organization aims at finding solutions to mitigate the most vulnerable groups’ concerns worldwide. The Fund operates in the regions facing political, social and technical problems, especially in the zones affected by war and conflicts. It implements cost-effective development projects, targeted to ease millions of people’s lives.

International Rescue Committee

 

The International Rescue Committee is a relief and humanitarian aid international organization, mandated to help the persons affected by war/conflicts or racial, religious, ethnic persecution. The Organizations works in over 25countries in the following core spheres: emergency response, health care, protection of children and the youth,development programs, setting up of schools and teachers training, initiatives supporting the public and effective governance.

       
   

CARE               International Humanitarian Fund

 

CARE International serves to help socially and economically vulnerable people and families overcome poverty with dignity. To this aim, the organization actively participates in elaborating and implementing numerous areas of policy. CARE provides special programs for socially and economically vulnerable people and contributes to their involvement into decision-making and conflict prevention processes.

       
    ACF International  

The Action against Hunger (ACF International) is a nongovernmental, private, apolitical, non-religious and non-profit organization, established in Paris in1979.Its activities cover such spheres as hunger, poverty and detrimental to life situations, affecting men, as well as women and children. ACF has been working in the South Caucasus since 1994. Initially the organization’s activity was connected with the emergency response programs and their further developments. Those programs acquired a term- rehabilitation projects under volatile socio-economic conditions. ACF South Caucasus, encompassing Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, operates 6 offices in the region with a main coordinating office in Tbilisi. The organization has about 75 employees in the region working on the mobilization of community agriculture marketing, legal issues, husbandry, socio-economic issues, database management, engineering, administration, logistics, support and project management.

       
   

ECMI

European Centre for Minority Issues

 

The European Centre for Minority Issues (ECMI)works in the sphere of Minority governance and conflicts resolution. ECMI office was set up in Georgia in 2003 and is committed to building a stable and inclusive democracy. ECMI helps the Minority organizations in advancing their own capacity and the Government in fostering its institutional facilities, in order to implement and promote policies on National minority issues. ECMI closely cooperates with the Georgian governmental agencies, international and national nongovernmental organizations with purpose to involve the national minority in the process of elaborating the state policy conducted specially for them.

    Save the children   An international organization, mandated to take care of children in need  and make a better  life for them. Its activities encompass such spheres, as education, health care and socioeconomic development. Besides, the organization provides a special assistance to children affected by natural disaster, war and conflicts.
